Artistic Profile

Style: Suzanne doesn’t categorize her personal style in the traditional way. She works in many traditional styles, sometimes combining several styles within one work. The traditional styles she works in include, but are not limited to, naturalism, impressionism, post-impressionism, modern, art deco and contemporary, as well as others. She personally defines she style as contemporary, since she is a living artist, working in today’s mediums.

Mediums: Suzanne has worked in many mediums throughout her lifetime including but not limited to sculpture (clay, plaster, wood, metal), stained glass, photography, drafting, drawing (soft pastel, pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, chalk), painting (oil, acrylic, latex, enamel, watercolor) on a variety of surfaces (canvas, wood, drywall, plaster, paper, other fabrics) and mixed mediums. She currently focuses mainly on oil on canvas paintings, charcoal and oil pastel drawings and mixed mediums, experimenting occasionally with other creative mediums.

Series: Suzanne is currently working on several series of work. Her first series has been inspired by the beauty of blooming plant-life and focuses on floral, both as still-life arrangements and natural settings. She began working with this subject matter at the very beginning of her career, when she created her first original oil painting at age eleven of a very large tree. Since that time she has brought her own unique style into each work, with each piece individually created in a way that captures the inimitable character of each and every plant.  Suzanne is most famous for her work in this genre. Mediums include oil on canvas, oil pastel on paper and velum, and charcoal on paper.

Her second series is of figures, people and animals. This series is mainly a contemporary study of human and animal expression as they experience the environment.  Mediums include charcoal on paper and oil pastel on velum.

Her third series is a combination of landscapes and seascapes. Her main focus in this series is to capture all the beauty of the earth and natural surroundings. Since traveling extensively both within the United States and abroad, Suzanne has experienced many different landscapes and seascapes that have captivated her imagination. She has attempted to seize the moment and freeze the view for her audience to experience the feeling and flow of the panorama within each work. Mediums include oil on canvas and oil pastel drawings.

In her fourth series, Suzanne has experimented with more contemporary mixed mediums in abstract art. By using various effects, she has created interesting visual work that leaves the imagination to wonder. Most of these works are mixed mediums.

Inspiration: Suzanne has always been interested in classic art styles going back to ancient and prehistoric art styles and forms. Two of her most loved styles are ancient Egyptian and Post-Impressionism. She has been very influenced and inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, because of his vision, his ability to capture the moment, and the flow of his work. She is also intrigued by his life’s struggle as not only an artist but also as a minister, and the fact that he never sold a painting within his own lifetime. Suzanne spent over a year in The Netherlands with much time spent at The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, studying Vincent’s work, and gaining great insight into his style.
